Ukulele Jam
If you have a ukulele / other portable instrument and a singing voice, please bring them! Once our lunch has settled, we will be playing a few Melissandrew favourites as a sing/strumalong, and most can be played with just a few chords. The setlist for the jam is as follows:
Set List
We will be projecting the tab on the night. Please listen to the songs beforehand if you can, maybe practise the chord changes too. We will be providing some ukuleles for those that want to give it a go, and singing loudly hides a lot. If you play another instrument that you’d like to bring, go for it!

Andrew plays with the Southampton Ukulele Jam, a lovely bunch of humans that meet every couple of weeks at ‘The 1865’, a music venue in Brunswick Square, in the city centre. The group also regularly play performances at community events in and around Southampton, often raising lots of money for charity, always with more emphasis on enthusiasm and fun than technical ability. You should come and check us out! Details of jam nights and events are at southamptonukulelejam.co.uk

If you can do a couple of, or even one of the chords - e.g. G, and strum whenever G comes up, that’ll be fun. If someone else near you does A, another does D, we’re there. Singers are more in demand, anyway, so consider a singalong instead. If there’s another instrument you do play that you think would go well, bring that!

Maybe… contact Andrew and he’ll see what we can do. Couple of things - anything needing to be plugged in requires a PAT test in advance. A battery amp could work. We can adjust levels to avoid drowning out the relatively gentle sound of ukuleles played together.

Yes! The tracks here on the website are what we will hear and play along to. I can remove/quieten various instruments too if we have an in-person bass player, for example.

What if we sound amazing? Andrew absolutely cannot wait for this part of the day, and it’s been part of the plan since the beginning. It’s going to be different.

It’s finishing a song the Southampton Ukulele Jam way; rapidly strum the last chord of the song, then slow that strumming down while everyone crouches down a little bit, then a little jump, followed by the last loud strum as you land. Perfection!

[A] = Strum as you know the song
<[A]> = Single strum only
[A]///|////| = Count the slashes to know when the next chord change is coming.
